Licensed Mover Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

• FMCSA Company Census File (DOT datahub az4n-8mr2) — Every USDOT-registered motor carrier: legal and DBA name, address, phone, cargo classes, fleet, drivers, operating-authority dockets, safety rating and MCS-150 date. Published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
• FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot — Live registration, authority, insurance and inspection summary for any USDOT number. Every profile links to it.

We pull the FMCSA Company Census and keep carriers whose USDOT status is active, whose classification is authorized for hire, and who list household goods as a cargo type.

To keep the list to real, operating movers we also require: an MC operating-authority docket marked active, a phone number, at least one power unit (truck or tractor), and an MCS-150 registration update within the last 24 months. That narrows about 100,000 household-goods registrations to roughly 44,000.

Fleet size, driver counts and cargo types are self-reported by the carrier on its MCS-150 form. Safety ratings (Satisfactory, Conditional, Unsatisfactory) are issued by FMCSA after a compliance review and are shown with the date of the review; most carriers have never been rated, which is normal.

Order within a city: companies that present themselves as movers — moving, relocation, van lines or storage in the legal or DBA name, or no general freight listed as cargo — come first, because many freight carriers also tick the household-goods box. Then largest reported fleet, then alphabetical. Featured movers appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.

What a badge means

Active FMCSA authority: the company's USDOT registration is active, it is authorized for hire to carry household goods, and it holds an MC operating-authority docket marked active in the FMCSA Company Census on the date shown. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. FMCSA updates the census continuously; we re-pull it weekly. Authority can change daily, so confirm on SAFER before you book.
